First Pakistan-Iran TIR transport operations in view

9 Nov 2017

The first Pakistan-Iran transport operations are the focus of a Memorandum of Understanding signed between Pakistan, Iran and ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½today in Geneva and will take place in the coming weeks.

The MoU establishes cooperation between the two TIR associations of the respective countries, concerning the organisation and performance-monitoring of initial TIR transports.

Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA) and Pakistan National Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce (PNC-ICC) agree to perform the first TIR operations between the two countries and to structure a roadmap to identify any impediments, with recommendations on how to resolve them.

The MoU stipulates that TIR-EPD ¨C a digital system for submitting advance information to the customs authorities of both countries ¨C is used for the TIR transports performed in the framework of the project.

With Iran and Turkey having successfully completed a digital TIR pilot last year and given Pakistan¡¯s capabilities to use digital TIR tools, there is strong potential for the Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul corridor to benefit from fully digital operations in the future.
