Decarbonising road transport and developing the necessary skills took centre stage at this week¡¯s Green Impact Expo & Summit in Morocco, where ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½laid out actionable strategies for a sustainable, skilled future in mobility.

At the Green Impact Expo & Summit in Casablanca, Morocco, this week, hosted by the F¨¦d¨¦ration Du Transport Et De La Logistique, ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½participated in two panels, presenting actionable solutions for decarbonising road transport through workforce training and sector professionalisation.

During the first panel, ¡°Decarbonisation of Transport: Strategic Framework for a Successful Energy Transition¡±, ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½showcased how its Green Compact ¨C a collective global action to achieve carbon neutrality in commercial road transport by 2050 ¨C is driving decarbonisation efforts.

ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½Director of Certification and Standards Patrick Philipp said, ¡°The ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½Green Compact study has shown that we can reduce 50% of road transport¡¯s carbon emissions through efficiency measures. These actions can be implemented today.¡±

The Green Compact¡¯s ¡°dual approach¡± to decarbonising road transport leverages both efficiency measures and alternative fuels.

Efficiency measures cover logistics (retiming, route optimisation and eco-trucks), vehicles (tyres, lightweighting and advanced lubrication), and drivers (eco-driving, skills monitoring and certification schemes). The second level of action focuses on building a robust, practical and economic transition to alternative fuels.

¡°Of the significant 50% reduction in emissions, 15% can be achieved through eco-driving training. Transport operators can lower both costs and emissions by improving driving efficiency,¡± highlighted Patrick Philipp.

On the second panel, ¡°Skills Transition for Sustainable Mobility: Preparing Businesses and Talents for Tomorrow¡¯s Challenges¡±, Patrick Philipp expanded on IRU¡¯s efforts to enhance the sector¡¯s safety, efficiency and sustainability.

¡°With decades of experience in developing, implementing, certifying and monitoring standards, ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½is the global leader in championing professional excellence in commercial road transport,¡± said Patrick Philipp. ¡°Skills development, certification and monitoring improve recruitment, motivation and retention, as well as productivity and profitability for mobility and logistics companies.¡±

The ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½RoadMasters programme, a talent and risk management solution, provides digital dashboards to help companies make informed decisions during and after the hiring process. Each ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½RoadMasters programme is tailored to specific types of transport, developed based on international best practices.

With ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½Examiner, governments and examination bodies can assess and certify road transport professionals based on international standards. This platform establishes professional qualifications for road transport ¨C focusing on examination methodology and certification ¨C that any country or region can adopt for both passenger and goods transport.

¡°Formalising and professionalising the road transport sector is essential for building a resilient, future-proof industry. By implementing internationally recognised standards, we can create a skilled workforce that adapts to the sector¡¯s evolving needs,¡± said Patrick Philipp.

¡°This transformation improves safety, efficiency and sustainability, while enhancing the sector's competitiveness. It empowers businesses to innovate, workers to grow, and the industry as a whole to thrive in a fast-changing world,¡± he added.
