With the backing of the World Bank, ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½has been working to support an in-depth reform of road transport in Togo, leading a project that will continue until 2022. Throughout 2020, ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½supported the establishment of a national federation representing the entire Togolese road transport sector, the Faiti¨¨re Patronale Togolaise des Transporteurs Routiers (FP2TR).
¡°Bringing the sector together in this way allows it to speak with one voice, putting it in a stronger position to shape policy and regulations to its needs,¡± said Akuavi Nassif, President of the Federation of Transport of Hydrocarbons by Road (S2TH), which is affiliated to the FP2TR.
¡°The FP2TR has already achieved a reduction of 90% in a newly imposed vehicle tax and of 50% in planned road toll increases for commercial vehicles. We are also representing the road transport industry in ministerial negotiations on freight market access between Togo and Burkina Faso,¡± said Gountante Migabr¨¦, Vice-Secretary of FP2TR.
ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½efforts to formalise and professionalise the road transport industry in Togo are making their mark. The next phase of the project will focus on setting up and implementing a training and qualification framework to ensure greater safety and operational efficiency.
