Meeting virtually this week, IRU¡¯s Presidential Executive (PE) reviewed progress in IRU¡¯s strategic delivery in 2020, and looked towards 2021 with cautious optimism. PE members particularly welcomed IRU¡¯s positive results in 2020, achieved despite the serious challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The PE reviewed IRU¡¯s continuing advocacy efforts to support the industry through the pandemic, including repeated calls for more targeted financial support for road transport operators. They also reaffirmed the importance of continuing to work together in the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½family to help operators face the extremely difficult business and operational environment they still find themselves in.
Reviewing the state of both goods and passenger road transport, despite the ongoing impact of the pandemic, PE members were positive about industry developments and ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½action related to decarbonisation and digitalisation.
With IRU¡¯s response to the pandemic demonstrating the value of membership, interest in joining ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½remains high and the PE approved two new applications from France and Gibraltar, expanding IRU¡¯s global network with new associations and multinationals.
